An empty notebook can feel strangely demanding. The first page seems to ask for something important, beautifully written, and worth saving forever. It does not have to. A notebook is allowed to be useful before it is beautiful.
Give it an easy job.
Start with a date and one sentence about where you are. Add a detail: the colour of the water, the name of a street, a thought that arrived on the way home. If you like drawing, sketch a shape without trying to make a finished picture. If you do not, a list is more than enough.
Collect questions as well as answers.
What made that room feel calm? Why did you stop at that particular view? What would you like to learn about the place you visited? Questions give a notebook somewhere to go next, and they can be more interesting than a complete account of what happened.
You do not need to fill a page every day. Return when you have something to notice. A few honest lines will tell you more than a perfect record you never enjoy making.
